THE FIVE FIVES SYNCHRONICITY
an excerpt from The Stephen Experience, by Michael Cocks
Carnyx The Romans saw this Celtic war trumpet or Carnyx
as the symbol for the Celtic tribes themselves.  Speaking in this instance,
in northern Koiné Greek, Stephen appears to refer to himself as a carnyx
and thus to imply that he was a Jew with Celtic connections.

[Tom Ashman, the channel, is unconscious.  There are just four of us present
in the room of a house in the Buller Gorge, New Zealand.  I, Michael
Cocks, am addressing the trance personality "St. Stephen", whom we believe
to be directly related to the first Christian martyr Stephen.]

Michael: I want to ask about patterns. There is a German word “Gestalten”:
If you look between two heads facing each other, noses three inches from each
other, you see the space between as a vase. If you look from the “Vase” you
will see the faces. It depends on the focus. Now it sometimes seems to me,
if we look at each other, that it is almost the pattern between us, that is
 important, rather than we ourselves.
It is almost as if we represent the thought of the One Thinker, and that
these patterns reproduce themselves over and over again.

Stephen : . . .  A simple way to put it would be: Take this universe.
Instead of speaking of bodies existing in the void of space, we might speak
of the bodies as holes in the void. We could say that the void, or the pattern
between, is of greater substance than what we feel to be solid, that we form
the outline of what is, and this is why our shape, or the shape of the
happenings, and of our purpose, does not seem to fit our puzzle.
It makes space for that puzzle.
Take this into your everyday life, look at the void, the pieces we feel
are not filled, and give that the substance. [On the other hand] regard
what has been filled, like the past, and like our history, as making place
for the substance. It is a difficult concept to grasp.

Michael: But it seems necessary, this thought, to explain the interlockings, the
patternings.
[It was only two or three days before I discovered interlockings,
synchronicity, happening in four other locations, during the same night that
I was talking with Stephen. It was after that we saw clearly that there had been
a Thought, a Something in the Space Between us that we were all touching,
all surrounding with our minds and actions.]

I get the impression from the interlockings of meaningful coincidence.
Sometimes it feels as if my consciousness lies between you and me, or
between Olive and me, or between the fireplace and me.  But I can only
infer this, for to me my consciousness feels mainly in my head, and I expect
when my body dies  - will my consciousness fit into the space between?
Or will I have no consciousness?

Stephen: We forget that there are two parts of us, this that thinks, and has
bodies, and this that is of the creator, which is the space maker.
But the pattern is determined by the Creator, and these lives that we find so
confusing and so unsatisfying, we are told by the Lord, that it is necessary,
that the space and emptiness be created and experienced,
to enable what has substance, the true Substance, to be placed there.

Can you give me a clear example? If I were trying to say this to
someone else, all I can do is to point out the meaningful coinciding
as I see it. But is there a simple way of talking about the Space Between
to some other person?

Think of it like this, that we look upon the land, the dry land between the seas,
as the substance. We look at the shape of the earth, with a picture in our
mind of the different shapes of our land, where the greater part, and the
substance of what is the surface of our planet, is water.
The greater amount of life, the greater amount of wealth, even measured in carnal
or human terms, is in the greater part, and what we call substance, the land,
has less of this wealth and life, and only fills the outline.

That makes a very good picture.

Now take it with our lives: so instead of the physical we have the mental:
what we give ourselves in our minds as the full substance. This [the physical]
is the outline only, and does but have one tenth of the nourishment and
wealth of the Void (the Space Between).

Then Stephen spoke the following words:
’Iácho me, phaíno sé, phrontithe [phrontízesthe?]

........five Greek words.
"I proclaim myself, I reveal thee, consider ye (this)"
[I did not comment, for I had not understood. Work with a lexicon was required]

I had written in my book about Jacob's Ladder not being something to be
climbed, before I spoke to you last time, and straightaway you talked about
Jacob's Ladder not being something to be climbed. Were you aware that
I had written this in my book? Or was it simply given you by the Father?

As with all things, I gave my knowledge (this is not a good word) I gave the
knowing, for I dwell in the Space Between the minds and the experience.   (Oh!)
Therefore the hole that your thought has made, or the contour the concave
of your thought is the convex in the true substance of thought, which is the Void.
You remember one time, when I spoke of those coming from distant planets
being closer than the breath of the tongue in your mouth. Even though as with
other things they maybe either on the other side of the sea, or the pond.
Now you can see that if they are but the outline of what is the true Substance,
then indeed they are very close, for like you and your experiences, they touch
always what is Substance.
That is why I often correct when people say that you must look within yourself.
In one direction that is correct, if the Self you look into is the Creator, or Substance.
But looking into the created, is to look into what is merely the outline of What Is.

Norman and I have sometimes across the world picked up or outlined the thought
which is the real thing; such as when I saw the UFO film , which was
placed in Wyoming, and I knew that the following morning Norman  would
give me a coincidence. (Norman being interested in UFOs and living in
Wyoming). In one sense that is mad thinking. In terms of the physical, but
it worked. Norman did supply me with a coincidence,
[I did hear from him,
when his gift of a book arrived in the post, Jacob]
Needleman's A sense of the
Cosmos, and so I suppose that both Norman and I were aware of the
thought, that Reality is one regardless of manifestations.

Provided that we recognise that Reality, the Substance does have an outline,
and not confuse reality with what is without Substance, and appears to us in the physical.
Think then of this, that the mind that was the contour, whether [or not] it
be at the opposite side of the Substance is immaterial, that if it were to touch
the outline, then they touched the Substance, and then of course the thoughts coincided.
It cannot be surprising that this is the case. For touch one of my ears (I should
say Touch one of Thomas' ears) then the other ear would be aware. Not the
space or air which surrounds Thomas, but the ear has been touched, and all that
"Substance" is aware.
Things that you have in the true void or non-Substance [i.e. physical reality] are
of no value other than they are an outline.
These things that our Lord spoke of, when he spoke of the camel, and using the
camel as the thread to the needle, [contrasting] Substance, and non-Substance.
For it would be easier to use the camel as the thread, than to turn what is
nothing into something.
The Lord performed miracles, when all that was [required] is [for] the knowledge
of Substance to alter the outline of which is non-Substance. To touch from Substance
and change the image, would [cause] the one dealing with non-Substance,
thinking non-Substance to be real, to cry “Miracle!” for it has been changed!
Your scientists often speak of the non-solidity of what we call “non-Substance”
[Atoms are largely empty space associated with patterns of energy.]
Solidity is between these minute particles of energy.[Quantum vacuum].

(I ask about the role of the ego, or physical self, the contour: Why it is needed,
if reality is in the Space Between?)

The ego is a product of your mind and its concepts. That mind, and that body, and
those concepts, must belong to the Whole. Is this not so? For nothing can exist that
is not part of the Whole. You have spoken of the dissipation of the ego (considering
that it separates us from our true selves in the Space Between), but you have not yet
considered it also is an instrument of the Whole.
We have spoken about the recording of experiences that are necessary for the Whole.
[Your body is essential for this process.] Each part of your body, being part of
the Whole, is unique. The workings of the Whole require the workings of each
part of the body for its uniqueness, for the recording of sensations, and the recording
of experiences. The workings of the Whole also require the ego that is creating part
of you, that part of the Whole whereby the Whole senses and records. Without that,
 we could be truly separate.
Think: it has often been said, that to the nucleus or core of the Whole there is no
sensation of either good or bad, cold or warm, soft nor hard. This would be the
case with our physical mind if it were not coupled with the whole body, to enable
our mind to record these sensations. Those sensations are recordings for the core
that supports us.  The actions of the mind can be controlled by our judgments, and
yet there can be control by the inspiration that comes from the heart, the Centre, the
Space between. The mind, without reference to the heart, judges and causes us to
 act, and to destroy.
Judgment is not valid, because it destroys what the heart says: "Take, hold precious,
enjoy and love, for this is the experience that must be recorded, by the Whole. For
I say this: What catches you as beauty, that causes a tear to fall with joy, that lifts
your heart, that causes you to embrace, to reach out, to perform the necessary deeds
with no thought of self, is what you have been led to do from the heart, from the
Centre. All that causes you to destroy, to sneer, to injure, to speak unkind words,
is the instrument of the mind being used by the judgement.

(This concludes our account of what happened at Berlins, that evening of October 1, 1978.
It can readily be grasped, how strong an experience it was, drawing us to a relationship to the One.)

THE “FIVE-FIVES”  PUZZLE
a striking example of synchronicity.

To see what this Puzzle is about, we need to study five puzzle pieces
discovered synchronistically in five locations.   I regard each puzzle piece
as having its origin in the “Space Between” in the “void” in the emptiness
that is the true Substance.  Let’s see what picture can be made from the puzzle pieces.

This conversation with Stephen took place in Berlins on the West Coast
of the South Island of New Zealand. A key item was Stephen’s five words of Greek.

Let's call the Berlins conversation with Stephen, just related:
"Location One".
Three parts are of particular interest:

(1) Five Greek words were spoken.
(2) the discussion about the Space Between
(3) the UFO theme, and the film directed by Steve Spielberg,  Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
==================
It took two or three days before “chance” discoveries revealed what had
been happening in four other locations in Christchurch, perhaps 150 miles
away from Berlins, during that same evening that I had been talking with Stephen.

Location Two: at the house of Des and Jessie in Christchurch.

On that same evening, Des had the urge to find five notes on the piano, without knowing why.

Location Three: was at my future wife Gertrud's home in Spreydon,
when on that same evening she had a dream.

She came from a forest to a speckled stone  at the edge of the forest, on a
beach near the sea, and in the stone were five plugs.  These "plugs" were
1.Wisdom, 2. Ability to recognise Beauty, 3. Empathy with people,
4. Self-knowledge, and as for the 5th.. what was this?. later she wondered
whether it could have to do with relating to the Whole.
She could be plugged into this stone, and the connections would go in her side.
The "5" can again be noted. The dream is more obviously along the same theme
as the Stephen conversation, in that the symbolism of the fivefold connections
from her body to the unconscious, the Spiritual, or maybe the Space Between.

Location Four: was at the classroom of a primary school teacher in Christchurch.

On this evening, he was making a large UFO of speckled silver paper, on a
netting base.  It was speckled like Gertrud's spiritual stone. It had five strips
of black polythene connecting it to the four walls of the classroom. I was able to
see his handiwork, when I conducted a Scripture class for his children, a day or two later.
Jung came to consider UFOs to be symbols of polarity and integration within
the Whole, and this is exactly the symbolism of the Philosopher's Stone.
Thus the images in Gertrud’s dream correspond closely to the symbolism
of the Philosopher’s Stone; the “speckling” of her stone, corresponds to that
of the “UFO”, underlining that it too belongs to this synchronicity.

Location Five was at John and Mary’s, in another part of Christchurch
On that same evening they had been consciously thinking of myself at Berlins,
and they were determined to share in that event.
They meditated, and they felt led to the Christian Science Monitor that their
friend Rene had lent to them.  It was the issue of August 21, 1978, and at page
29 there was the following poem that they clipped out, feeling it to be important:

Message Received:
Sudden sun bursts...in your thought
The tree at your window... takes leaf in your book
Unannounced five birds
five shadows
gather print in their wings
move within the branches' tracery
that grows through the words
their meanings alight
Notes on the stave of the tree, they remain
after the birds are gone, after the words fly free.
The eye becomes the ear.
You're wondering why
in all this sun, in all this gentle urging
five sounds frame one
dear
    cosmic
          cry.

[after this point in the poem  the five notes were written out
in musical notation.]

          º   /  º   /   º        / º    /    º
   ’iácho/ me/ phaíno/ sé /phrontízesthe

Those five notes are the notes by which the Close Encounters UFO
(mentioned in my conversation with Stephen) attuned itself to this world.
They therefore specifically link this poem with the UFO film, and with the
scene at Devil's Tower in the north of Wyoming. The five notes formed part
of a piece of music that was being much played on the radio stations,
for a long time afterwards.
